Keane Gruending is the Communications and Project Officer at Carbon Talks and is a passionate advocate for the low-carbon economy. He has worked on sustainable development projects in the post-secondary, transportation, private, and civil society sectors.
He has a strong marketing and communications background, extensive experience in research and strategy development and an entrepreneurial mindset. While finalizing his master’s dissertation on regional climate and energy policy, Keane worked with the UN Environment Program in Washington, DC where he conducted environmental and policy research.
He has served as the co-manager of the Victoria Car Share Co-operative where he led social enterprise management, business planning, and administration. During his tenure, Keane played a transformative role, growing the organization’s assets and increasing annual revenue while helping to build Vancouver Island’s sustainable transportation network. Keane has also consulted on the development of a sustainable housing demonstration project at Nexus Solar and authored a business plan for a successful recycling system at the University of Saskatchewan.
Keane holds a Master of Science in Environment and International Development from the University of East Anglia in the UK, where he specialized in climate change, resource, and development issues. Keane is an active blogger and cyclist and has traveled and lived throughout 22 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
